National Women in Roofing Fall Festival | October 19, 2024
The National Women in Roofing (NWiR) and Careers in Construction Colorado hosted a Fall Festival at the MiLL National Training Center on Saturday, October 24, 2024. The official name for The MiLL is the Manufacturing Industry Learning Lab. On their website, The MiLL describes themselves as housing “cabinet manufacturing, careers in construction, and welding technology programs for high school students.” Further, at The MiLL, “Students are trained on the industry’s most sophisticated machines, tools, and technology.” In short, it is a hands-on learning environment for students who want to develop skills needed for a variety of careers in manufacturing. And if you have ever heard Mike Rowe from the Discovery Channel talk about the desperate need for skilled manual laborers, then you know that he would absolutely love this place! And it was a perfect venue for hosing this fall event.
Kelly Miller, the Council President for NWiR of Southern Colorado, was kind enough to share about what her organization does. “We work with all people that want to support the advancement of women in our profession, and we have partnered with The MiLL and also with Careers in Construction Colorado to bring this event today. We are going to do a couple of tours today so that people can learn more about The MiLL and Careers in Construction Colorado. We are very excited. This is our second year of doing the event, and this has by far exceeding our expectations.” Below, I have posted a handful of photos from the inside tour of The MiLL as well as some outdoor shots of the festival featuring a number of industry partners along with a couple of local food trucks.
Kelly from the NWiR went on to share about her organization which is not only a nonprofit, but also national in scope: “We are looking to empower women to advance their careers in the working industry. We do that through education and networking and getting them positions and different career opportunities. It’s just a bunch of us from different large roofing businesses in town. We’ve done a terrific job of connecting a lot of the women in these different roofing businesses.” You can learn more by visiting the website of the National Women in Roofing.
